Organization Behavior in Healthcare Setting
Importance of Collaborating and Teamwork
Collaboration and teamwork are essential in any health care organization setting. For instance, the World Health Organisation (WHO) is an international health organization body that has the world’s health state at hand. For this reason, it is clear that conflicts will at all the time rise ...due to different ideologies. It is at this point where conflict management is required. Conflict management becomes an easy activity for WHO when members choose to collaborate and work together as a team. Collaboration enhances a spirit of tolerance, mutual understanding, and patience which are essential in a health care setting especially when handling critical issues affecting the world like an outbreak of contagious diseases. Oliphant (2018) argues that acting and operating as a team helps in solving problems as there is an adequate analysis of the issue at hand by the members (Oliphant, 2018).
Managing a Conflict
Conflict is a vice that occurs between two individuals having differences. For example, WHO faces conflicts due to misunderstanding and poor communication among its members. At this point, proper strategies are developed that take into consideration all the ideas presented by the conflicting members. Since WHO deals with different countries, an appropriate strategy that includes the adoption of peaceful negotiations among the opposing parties is considered the best option (Large, 2019). All this is aimed at coming to an agreement that will create a peaceful co-existence.
Reasons as to why People may reject Team participation
Basari & Altinay (2018) explain that some people naturally prefer working alone. One primary reason as to why they prefer working alone is that they do not like disturbance and also being monitored or supervised (Basari & Altinay, 2018). Moreover, other people refuse to work as a team as they do not like the argument or rather the discussion that may at times not be healthy. People in the healthcare setting may avoid participating in inter-professional teams with a reason that they have an urgent task to handle that cannot wait.
A proper strategy to manage conflict and change can be designed to have an open and appropriate communication channel. The approach will also have well-defined rules and regulations that govern all the operation in the group. To ensure that there are equal chances for each member, there is a channel that is used to air their views.
In conclusion, teamwork is essential in conflict management since it allows for the sharing of ideas and consensus. All this enables the conflicting parties to come a common ground through arbitration, hence enabling the conflict at hand to be solved amicably. Therefore, teamwork and collaboration have to be advocated as it can offer a possible and robust solution to a conflict.
